Pelicans Rest is primarily for the family Looking to
relax. This family would like to commune with nature but
without sacrificing creature comforts. This family needs a break,
throughout the year, not just for summer vacation. This family does not need to
be entertained but rather needs to have the opportunity to be
together without artificial, commercial, amusement.
Also we cater to families who do not like leaving the
family pooch behind alone or boarded at an (expensive!) kennel. Unlike at most lodging
facilities, well behaved pets are welcome at Pelicans Rest!
Do
any of the following describe (appeal to) you? If yes, then Pelicans
Rest is for you!
· Desire
for a private, quiet, serene, environment. No traffic. No sirens. Sound is that made by song
birds singing, pelicans crashing headfirst into the water after
prey, seagulls screeching at each other, or a hoot owl at
night. Visual
stimulation is sunrise or sunset over a Bay and saltwater
marshes. Night skies
are crystal clear without air or light pollution to interfere with
star gazing. In-season,
watch the lights of the shrimp boats as they go about their work
(and you can buy the fruits of this labor the next morning!) Several
families have REALLY enjoyed canoeing in the marsh canals to very
private parts of the Pamlico beach. They have also liked the
ferry ($14pp) that takes them to deserted portions of the Atlantic
Ocean beaches on the Outer Banks for shelling, relaxing, and/or
surf fishing.
· Do not like leaving the
family pooch behind alone or boarded at an (expensive!) kennel. Unlike at most
lodging facilities, well behaved pets are welcome at Pelicans
Rest!
· Desire
new facility with lots of creature comforts. The suite is fully equipped and
even include linens, towels, and basic cooking staples and
utensils. We have a
large selection of games and books (especially mysteries!) and a few
DVD’s and Videos.
o The
newly constructed (2005) Suite (960 sq ft) consists of: living
room with a beautiful wood burning fireplace, Cable TV with HBO, DVD
player and VCR; fully furnished kitchen with range, refrigerator,
microwave, washer and dryer; bath with tub; and two bedrooms with
TV’s (even XM Radio!). You
enjoy the beauty of the all pine floors and the luxurious bed
linens.
- Free WiFi
to DSL Broadband Internet
· Yearn for a place with quiet, private,
walks.
The nearby beach front on
Pamlico Sound offers miles of secluded
beaches where you will rarely see another person. You can even arrange for
guided horseback rides along the beach. Our property is
about 5 acres with Garden "rooms" popping up as fast as Daničle and
Barbara can make them. Check out the Greenhouse
too!
· Dear
Husband is a waterfowl (esp Duck) hunter or fisherman but does
not like to leave Dear Wife alone and bored as he “gathers”. At Pelicans Rest,
Dear Wife will be just fine and not begrudge Dear Husband’s
pursuits. She will sit
in front of a wood fire with a good book or lounge at the pool. Perhaps she will be
interested in cooking lessons where Daničle shares her culinary
secrets and experience from owning a Zagat rated Belgian Bistrot in
the DC area. Dear
Husband’s chances of success will be improved by virtue of being
guided, at very reasonable rates, by one of the
Island ’s residents who has grown up on these
waters.
·
Photography is your hobby. If you’re not into
gunning or if hunting season is closed, we can arrange for guides to
put you in blinds armed only with your camera! Since it would be legal to
bait the area, you are more likely to get some fantastic waterfowl
photos. There are many great photography subjects on the
Island.
· Traveling
on the NC Ferry System's Cedar Island - Ocracoke (and on to
Hatteras) run. If you’re going to catch the ferry (or
are arriving on a late ferry, see if we have space available and
avoid a long drive to Morehead City motels...plus, Fido will
appreciate it since he/she will have room to run and the motel
probably would reject the pooch
anyway.
